Explanation
• On June 30, 2026, Mayor Lyles referred a Minimum Housing Code policy item to the Committee. The referral asks the Committee to determine if any applicable Minimum Housing Code ordinance changes and/or policy recommendations to include the requirement to provide air conditioning should be made to Council for consideration. At the August meeting, the Committee discussed key considerations and information needed to fully evaluate the issue. The Committee will review examples of cooling ordinances from other U.S. cities, discuss key themes from the landlord survey, and consider potential air conditioning provisions.
Action: Action if Committee desires.
