A.                     Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a Municipal Agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to accept Surface Transportation Block Grant Program Direct Attributable funds in the amount of $1,338,000 for the W. T. Harris Boulevard and Sugar Creek Road Intersection project, and

 

B.                     Adopt a budget ordinance appropriating $1,338,000 from the North Carolina Department of Transportation for construction to the General Capital Projects Fund.

Explanation

§                     The W. T. Harris Boulevard and Sugar Creek Road Intersection Project is designed to increase capacity and alleviate congestion along the Sugar Creek Road corridor by constructing exclusive right-turn lanes along the northbound and southbound approaches of Sugar Creek Road at W. T. Harris Boulevard (Council District 2).

§                     The project supports the June 2022 City Council adopted Strategic Mobility Plan by advancing a safe transportation system for all users.

§                     The city will receive $1,338,000 in Surface Transportation Block Grant Direct Attributable funds from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) for the project. An additional $573,425 funding for the project is included in the existing capital budget.

§                     Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2028.
