Explanation

§                     This contract is for construction services and rehabilitation of two primary clarifiers and improvements to the Headworks at McDowell Creek Water Resource Recovery Facility, located in the Town of Huntersville.

§                     Primary clarifiers are used in the second step of the wastewater treatment process, after initial screening, to remove solids from wastewater. The current mechanisms have reached end of service life.

§                     On June 26, 2026, the city issued an Invitation to Bid; six bids were received.

§                     M.B. Kahn Waterworks, LLC was selected as the lowest responsive, responsible bidder.

§                     The project is anticipated to be completed by the second quarter of 2028.

 

Charlotte Business INClusion

Effective July 1, 2026, Session Law 2026-41 eliminated the authority of North Carolina local governments to use race-conscious and gender-conscious contracting requirements. In compliance with the new law, no MBE/WBE/MWBE/MSBE/WSBE/MWSBE goals or compliance requirements will be included in city contracts. SBE goals are not affected and shall continue to be used in compliance with the CBI program and applicable law.
