Explanation
§ The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has been invited to apply for a $50,000 grant from the NC Governor’s Highway Safety Patrol.
§ The terms of the grant require that City Council adopt a resolution authorizing CMPD to apply for and accept the grant funding.
§ If awarded, this grant will provide:
- $17,500 to purchase five LIDAR radar units (handheld pieces of equipment used by certified officers to detect speeding)
- $25,000 to purchase one seat belt convincer
- $7,500 for the Regional Law Enforcement Liaison’s travel, training, and meeting expenses
§ The grant is for a one-year term from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024.
§ No matching funds are required from the city.
