Provide city council members with actionable insights and tools to enhance their collective performance and governance effectiveness. Participants will explore the principles of high performing councils, the roles and responsibilities of governance, and strategies for fostering collaboration, accountability, and long-term visioning. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and exercises, council members will leave with a clear understanding of how to build trust, align priorities, and govern with impact.
Goals:
§ Understand the Principles of High-Performing Councils - Define what makes councils effective and impactful, focusing on collaboration, accountability, and strategic vision.
§ Clarify Governance Roles and Responsibilities - Explore the distinct roles of elected officials and administration, emphasizing oversight, policy-making, and fiduciary duties.
§ Enhance Collaborative Decision-Making - Develop strategies to align diverse viewpoints, foster productive dialogue, and achieve consensus on key priorities.
§ Foster a Culture of Trust and Accountability - Identify practices to strengthen interpersonal trust, transparency, and a shared sense of purpose.
§ Commitment and adoption of a set of work agreements to serve as a guide for council interactions, discussions, and rules of engagement.
