Explanation
* The Charlotte Department of Transportation operates and maintains Charlotte's multi-modal transportation network, which includes curb ramps and other pedestrian facilities.
* This work supports the city's mobility policies to achieve a safe, connected, equitable, sustainable, prosperous, and innovative transportation network for Charlotte.
* Lawyers Road and Harri Ann Drive are part of Charlotte's 2021-2025 High-Injury Network, and the added pedestrian infrastructure supports the city's broader Vision Zero safety goals.
* This project will include 0.34 miles of new sidewalk, driveway improvements, and curb ramps on Lawyers Road from Chestnut Lake Drive to Harri Ann Drive in Council District 5.
* On May 12, 2026, the city issued an Invitation to Bid; five bids were received.
* Carolina Prime Developers, LLC was selected as the lowest responsive, responsible bidder.
* The project is anticipated to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2027.

Effective July 1, 2026, Session Law 2026-41 eliminated the authority of North Carolina local governments to use race-conscious and gender-conscious contracting requirements. In compliance with the new law, no MBE/WBE/MWBE/MSBE/WSBE/MWSBE goals or compliance requirements will be included in city contracts. SBE goals are not affected and shall continue to be used in compliance with the CBI program and applicable law.
