A.                     Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to negotiate and execute a Municipal Agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to accept Surface Transportation Block Grant funds in the amount of $1,030,000 for Hornets Nest Park Access Improvements project, and

 

B.                     Adopt a budget ordinance appropriating $1,030,000 from the North Carolina Department of Transportation to the General Capital Projects Fund.

Explanation

§                     The Hornets Nest Park Access Improvements project will construct a sidewalk along Sunset Road and drainage improvements from Day Lilly Road to Kiev Drive (Council District 2).

§                     This project is located within the Sunset/Beatties Ford Comprehensive Neighborhood Improvement Project.

§                     The project supports the June 2022 City Council adopted Strategic Mobility Plan by advancing a safe transportation system for all users.

§                     In 2020, City Council authorized the City Manager to execute a municipal agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to accept Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) funds in the amount of $1,500,000 for the project.

§                     The city will receive an additional $1,030,000 in STBG funds from NCDOT, with a new local match of $258,000 for construction.

§                     Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2025.
