Action:

Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into a memorandum of understanding with Mecklenburg County as a law enforcement partner through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Explanation

§                     Each year, the city applies for and receives the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.

§                     The grant will fund overtime for neighborhood patrols and crime lab staff, the Police Cadet Program, and the Summer Intern Program.

§                     The grant requires that Mecklenburg County receive a portion of the total award as a law enforcement partner.

§                     The city’s share of the funding will be $495,168, and Mecklenburg County will receive $123,800.

§                     No matching contribution from the city is required.
