Adopt a resolution authorizing the City to apply and accept a grant award in the amount of $204,424 from the Governor’s Highway Safety Program for the Driving While Impaired Task Force.

Explanation

§                     The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has been invited to apply for a Fiscal Year 2023 Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP) grant for the Driving While Impaired (DWI) Task Force.

§                     The grant will fund 25 percent of the DWI Task Force’s personnel and training costs for six officers and one sergeant in the amount of $204,424. The City will provide 75 percent matching funds in the amount of $613,272 from CMPD’s operating budget.

§                     GHSP requires that City Council adopt a resolution authorizing CMPD to apply for and accept the grant funding.

§                     The grant is for a one-year term from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023.

§                     This grant has been awarded annually for the previous nine years. In total, the GHSP has provided over $3,624,600 in funding for the DWI Task Force.
